Artificial insemination in Israel

Israeli clinics for artificial insemination have a very high status. Percentage of successful fertilization in Israel is one of the highest in the world being equal to 45% in women under 38 (30% from frozen fetuses). The percentage is rapidly decreased for the age of 38-42. After 42 more complicated techniques are utilized. In Israel, there are a number of clinics engaged in artificial insemination. Percentage rates are approximately at the same level in different clinics; however, a recognized leader in this field is Helen Schneider Hospital for Women, Rabin Medical Center.

The use medicinal products inducing ovulation

Within the preparation to the procedure of ootid extraction, the administration of treatment is scheduled including oral intake of certain hormonal agents, such as ikaklomin, metrodin, decapeptol, lorigine or other drugs (depending on ovarian response).

Procedure of ootid extraction from ovarian follicles

In most cases, this procedure is performed through vaginal opening using ultrasound apparatus, or in special cases by means of laparoscopy, during which surgical instruments are introduced into abdominal cavity through 2 or 3 incisions made in the abdominal wall. Extraction of ootids using ultrasound apparatus may be performed under topical anesthesia or general anesthesia of the whole body. Laparoscopy is performed under general anesthesia. The ootids extracted are transferred to the laboratory located near operation room. Ootids are placed into special solution containing sperm collected from a partner and processed. In some cases, the collection of additional portion of sperm from the partner may be required.

Embryo implantation

After 2-3 days, ootids that have undergone a phase of fertilization and normal development (embryos) are implanted into the uterine cavity. The number of embryos implanted into the uterus may vary depending on patient response and condition of embryos. Embryos that are normally developed but not implanted into the uterus are frozen for the period established by the Ministry of Health of Israel. Within this period they may be unfrozen for implantation into female uterus.

The other two procedures of embryo implantation are performed by means of laparoscopy (method used selected for each individual case and may vary from one procedure to another one):
  •  GIFT(this method consists in implantation of ootids and sperm into uterine tube the day the ootid is extracted).
  •  ZIFT(already fertilized ootids (embryos) are implanted into the uterine tube).
After embryo implantation phase female patient is administered hormonal treatment basing on individual medical disposals.
